In
regularly inspected test labs these are carefully arranged
considering the danger of radiation. However, if anyone has more
concerns, they can ask specifically for a radiation badge, a
dosimeter, which is generally available in the hospital’s safety
office. This would only be an extra precaution. Most hospitals have
radiation badges used by both nurses and pregnant women to protect
their abdomen when they have a radiation diagnosis center.
A radiation badge is suggested by doctors when the exposure is higher
than 5 mR/hr.
Other
measures include the simple ones like, making sure the apron covers
the area which is going to be exposed to radiation. Covering the
sides of the abdomen is also important. Make sure not to turn around
during the diagnosis, as the back isn’t fully covered with a lead apron. The above precautions are taken care of by the staff and
doctors as they check for the safety of the patient.
